As shown above, Mass Tort Attorney, Gabriel F. Zambrano was featured in a November 2009 story on KTLA News in Los Angeles, California, regarding DRSP (DROSPIRENONE) containing birth controls pills and the initiation of National Mass Tort litigation. This story focused on DRSP (DROSPIRENONE) contraceptive pills and cases being filed against the manufacturer - BAYER HEALTHCARE PHARMACEUTICALS. At the time, a recently released British Medical Journal article noted that DRSP (DROSPIRENONE) posed a higher risk factor for blood clots. Since that time, there have been two additional related articles. The FDA is presently evaluating their continuing concern that DRSP (DROSPIRENONE) containing birth control pills pose a higher risk for blood clots to consumers. Estimates conflict and claim a 1.5x to 3.0x higher risk. The FDA scheduled a public advisory hearing on December 8, 2011, to address these issues and FDA’s own study has confirmed a 75%-77% higher risk of blood clots than other forms of birth control. The pills narrowly survived a 15-11 vote weighing their ‘safety’ and ‘effectiveness’ in preventing pregnancy to avoid a ‘market withdrawal’ or ‘recall’.
